Edwin W Dennard, MD

Family Medicine
Dr. Dennard is a board-certified family physician with special interests in chronic disease management and preventive care of middle aged and older patients. He believes the role of a primary care physician is to help patients to plan for a long, active life, and he sees his role as trusted advisor who seeks to educate and provide options for patients to make the choices that work best for them. Dr. Dennard is a native Texan who settled in New Orleans after graduating from Tulane University’s college of arts and sciences. He is a graduate of the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed residency training in family medicine at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; so, he tries to maintain a low profile when LSU and Alabama meet on the gridiron. At Tulane, he has been a proponent of evidence-based medicine, which seeks to apply the most up-to-date research to medical diagnosis and treatment, and he maintains membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, which mandates a high standard for annual continuing medical education. He certified in family medicine with the American Board of Family Medicine following residency in 1999, and he has recertified in 2005 and 2015. Dr. Dennard joined the Tulane faculty in 1999, fresh out of residency, and he currently serves as chairman of the academic department of family medicine.
